Let me be honest with you — after years of creating at my makeup chair, I've seen it all. The wrong foundation shade that photographs orange. The powder that settles into fine lines. The overly dramatic eye that completely overpowers a face. And I've also seen the opposite — the moment a client looks in the mirror and says, "That's exactly me, but better." That moment? That's everything. ✨
That is the transformative power of makeup done right.
It's Not One-Size-Fits-All — And It Never Should Be
Here's the thing that so many people don't realize: makeup is deeply personal. What works beautifully on one person can look completely wrong on another — and it has nothing to do with someone being "hard to work with." It has everything to do with using the right products for the right skin type, the right features, and the right age.
Dry skin and oily skin? They need completely different foundation formulas. A more mature client with thinner skin? Heavy powder is her enemy — it will settle into fine lines and dull the radiance we worked so hard to create. A client with hyperpigmentation or redness? Color correction is a non-negotiable first step before concealer ever touches the skin. A client with deep-set eyes versus someone with a more prominent brow bone? The eyeshadow placement changes entirely.
This is the craft. And it's one I take seriously every single time I open my kit.
The Secret Ingredient? Actually Listening.
You can have the best products in the world sitting in your kit and still miss the mark — because great professional makeup artistry isn't just about technique. It's about communication.
Before I ever pick up a brush, I want to know you. What do you love about your face? What are you insecure about? Do you want to feel glam or barely-there? Are you someone who wears makeup every day, or does a full face feel foreign and heavy to you? Are you walking down the aisle, sitting across a boardroom table, or celebrating your son's bar mitzvah?
All of that matters. All of it shapes every single decision I make from skincare prep to the final lip color.
Here's what I believe with my whole heart: a client's voice is as important as any brush in my kit. What you want and what will work beautifully for your face can absolutely coexist — and finding that sweet spot is exactly where my work lives. I don't override what you're asking for. I listen, I translate it, and I elevate it into something that makes you feel completely and undeniably like yourself.
Formulas, Finishes, and Why They Matter More Than You Think
Let's talk products for a second — because this is where so many DIY makeup attempts go sideways.
Skincare prep is the foundation of everything (pun intended). Hydrated, prepped skin holds makeup longer, photographs more beautifully, and gives product something to grip onto. Skipping this step is like painting a wall without priming it first.
Foundation and concealer formulas need to match your skin's needs — not just your shade. A full-coverage matte formula on dry, mature skin is a recipe for a cakey, crepe-y finish by noon. A lightweight, skin-tint formula on someone who needs real coverage will leave them feeling exposed and self-conscious. I spend a lot of time understanding skin before I ever reach for a bottle.
Powder usage — this is a big one. More powder does not mean longer lasting makeup. Strategic, minimal powder application in the right areas is what actually holds a look without flattening it or aging the skin.
Sensitivity and everyday wear habits also factor into my product choices. A client who rarely wears makeup may find heavy product uncomfortable, so I build looks that feel breathable, lightweight, and second-skin — while still delivering that elevated, polished result.
The Difference a Professional Makes
I've been doing this for a long time. And the thing that continues to set my work apart isn't just the years of experience or the quality of product in my kit — it's the relationship I build with every single person who sits in my chair.
Repeat clients come back not just because the makeup looks beautiful in photos. They come back because they felt heard. They felt like the process was collaborative, comfortable, and tailored entirely to them. They come back because they looked in the mirror and recognized themselves — just the most luminous, polished, confident version.
That's the transformation I'm after every single time. Not a mask. Not a look copied from a trend. You — enhanced, elevated, and absolutely glowing.
