Your Ultimate Guide to Bridal Beauty: Makeup and Spray Tan FAQs for a Flawless Wedding Day!

April 8, 2025

Tanning expert, Emily of Bronze Palms, and Bridal Makeup Expert, Heather of Makeup the Bride, are here to help you achieve the BRIDAL look of your dreams!

Introduction:

Every bride dreams of looking flawless and radiant on their special day. A perfect blend of makeup and spray tan can create a gorgeous, unforgettable look. However, navigating the world of bridal beauty can be overwhelming. This article brings together the expertise of a master makeup artist and a master spray tanner to answer some frequently asked questions about makeup and spray tan trials for brides-to-be.

FAQs:

**1. When should I schedule my makeup and spray tan trials?**

Ideally, schedule your makeup and spray tan trials 3-5 months before your wedding day or even sooner depending on the popularity of your wedding date. Your spray tan appointment should happen 2 -3 days in advance of your makeup trial. This will give you ample time to test different shades if you need to (but most times we get it right the first try!), discuss your preferences, and finalize the perfect combination for your big day. Don’t worry about it coming off on your dress; after your first soapy shower, you’re not going to run into issues like that!

Pro tip: line your trials up with your bridal shower to get the most use out of it!

**2. How should I prepare for my makeup and spray tan trials?**

For the makeup trial:

- Have a clean and fresh face upon arrival for trial.

- Send makeup inspo photos and photos of yourself ahead of time so on the day of the trial, we can discuss details based on what your features are and what would look best.

- Wear a white or neutral-colored top to see how colors show up against your skin tone and wear a similar neckline if possible to your dress.

-If you plan on doing any treatments for eg. a certain type of facial or threading or adding lash extensions…it is best to try these out before a makeup trial to make sure your skin can tolerate it and for best actual makeup look results. Please speak to your artist if planning on doing any of these special treatments to try and schedule accordingly beforehand.

For the spray tan trial:

- Exfoliate your skin 24 hours before the trial using a warm washcloth or exfoliating mitt.

- Avoid using moisturizers, lotions, or deodorants on the day of your trial.

- Wear loose, dark-colored clothing.

**3. What should I discuss with my makeup artist and spray tanner during the trials?**

For the makeup artist:

- Your skin texture and skin sensitivities will be discussed ahead of time but will most definitely be top of mind during trial.

- Your desired bridal makeup look we will go over when referencing your makeup inspo photos.

-After the trial, if any modifications need to be done, then that will be discussed and done as well for the most part unless bride to be decides on something after they leave, that is ok too!

- How the wedding day will breakdown in regards to schedule, getting ready location and all things wedding! It’s a great opportunity to get to know your artist and vice versa! You are spending quality time with your artist on your wedding day so you want to make sure that vibe is fun and calming for you.

For the spray tanner:

- The shade and intensity of the tan.

- Any skin concerns or areas you want to focus on.

- How your skin typically reacts to sun exposure.

**4. How long do makeup and spray tan trials usually take?**

Makeup trials typically take 1.5-2 hours, while spray tan trials take about 30 minutes.

**Remember, communication and careful application are key, so don't rush the process.

**5. What if I'm not happy with the results of my trial?**

It's important to be open and honest with your makeup artist and spray tanner. A spray tan puts a contrast between your skin and ivory dress; a little goes a LONG way! If you're not satisfied with the results, let them know so they can make necessary adjustments to create a look that suits you perfectly. At the end of the day, our job is give you what YOU want and we are happy to make that happen. We always want our clients to feel like they can 100% be honest with us.

**6. Should I bring someone with me to my trials?**

It's a great idea to bring a close friend, family member, or a bridesmaid to your trials. Not only will you appreciate their support, but their feedback can also be valuable in helping you choose the right makeup and spray tan looks. We love getting to know not only YOU but anyone in your Bride Tribe!

**7. How should I maintain my makeup and spray tan after the trials?**

For makeup, Makeup the Bride gives you a lasting makeup look that will last you from the aisle to the dance floor but lucky for you, she also offers touch up kits for you and your ladies so noone has to be without. For spray tans, follow the aftercare instructions provided by your technician to prolong your tan and ensure an even fade.

Conclusion:

Your wedding day is a once-in-a-lifetime event, and you deserve to look and feel your best. By scheduling makeup and spray tan trials well in advance, you'll have the chance to experiment and perfect your bridal look before the big day. Remember to communicate openly with your makeup artist and spray tanner, and don't be afraid to ask questions or express any concerns.

Congratulations and we’re so excited to be part of your big day!

How to choose your Wedding Makeup Look!

March 1, 2021

I have been a makeup artist doing weddings for over 20 years and choosing your makeup look for your wedding is a very personal experience. After all, all eyes will be on the bride, right?!! Some brides want to go all GLAM and some want a natural look. Both can be very beautiful. In this blog post, I will discuss which ‘Bridal Beauty’ look could be right for YOU!!

The Au Natural Bridal Makeup Look…this ‘bride to be’ doesn’t wear alot of makeup on a daily basis and wants to look like an enhanced version of themselves walking down the aisle. This is my most requested LOOK as a bridal makeup artist. This makeup application would always start out with a great skincare routine that is nourishing and hydrating. The makeup will enhance eye color and shape with the addition of lashes (most likely). Brows are subtle and not over done. Foundation is a tinted moisturizer or is lightweight to medium coverage. Cheeks are subtle and lip color is similar to the natural lip tint. Not alot of highlight and soft contour on the face. This overall take on a natural makeup application can be altered depending on the person and what they may want more or less of. Every look is customized for each BRIDE always.

The all GLAM Bridal Makeup Look…this ‘bride to be’ wears makeup on a daily basis and isn’t shy about it. She most likely wears lashes especially if she is going out for a special occasion. This makeup application would always start out with a great skincare routine that is very hydrating. This makeup will have a medium to opaque base coverage on the face, highlight, liner, lashes, contour, bolder brows along with a bolder lip. She wants to be seen, if you will. Of course, this look is customizable to every Bride as well. Some may want the GLAMMED out eyes but would like everything else softer and more natural. Bold and beautiful!

The Bronzed Bridal Look…this ‘bride to be’ is on the more natural side I would say. Loves a bohemian vibe, the beach and being outdoors. This makeup look starts out with a serum enriched skincare routine. Then we add bronzed shadows to the eyes, bronzed warmth to the face with a beautiful dewy foundation, gilded or matte bronzer and either a bold lip or lipgloss that balances out the overall look. Brows are manicured but maybe not overdone and lashes are most likely added. Once again, this look can be customized to fit the beauty look that is desired.

A Romantic Bridal Look…this is a classic ‘bride to be’. She likes makeup and wears it often but would like to feel and look her most beautiful as every bride does. This makeup application would start with a very good skincare routine as with every look. I would concentrate on using a softer eyeshadow palette that compliments the eye color and shape, a softer eyeliner look, the foundation would be a natural finish, a soft highlight and not alot of contour, a pink pout and wispy lashes with a soft filled in brow. Of course, this look can be customized too!

Every BRIDE and every wedding is different. The wedding dress style may often dictate the BEAUTY vibe one would like to achieve. There is no right or wrong. There is only YOUR Beauty, YOUR Way, YOUR wedding day!!
