Covid Engagement Ideas!

February 15, 2021

This past year has been a DOOZY to say the least right?! For me personally, my Bridal and Special Event business has slowed down tremendously of course…but I started to think about Covid and how people creatively did their proposals. I know that February is always a staple for wedding engagements because of Valentine’s Day so I wanted to share with you some fun and creative ways I found that people have gotten engaged over the past year during Covid-19. There is an underlying sense of pressure when you want to propose but add a layer of a "‘Pandemic” and then what? Well, lets check out the cute proposal ideas that came to be!

Think the first one is pretty brilliant and sweet. A great way to get your family involved. Yes, you guessed it, ZOOM! Send everyone in your family a large piece of paper or cardstock with the words “Will You Marry Me’ and surprise your significant other on a family Zoom call. Pop the question with a virtual twist! Each screen/family member(s) will hold up the paper at the right time and there ya have it….The distance and the safety of all is uncompromised!! Love it!

Here is another twist to this scenario. Have your family members take a picture of themselves holding up one of the letters from the ‘Will You Marry Me?’ and line them up to surprise your significant other as well! It’s simple, sweet and easy to do! One can get pretty original with this and each person’s letter or word.

Obviously proposing at home has been common place but elevating the idea is always of interest. If you were planning on getting engaged on holiday then bring the holiday to you! Create a romantic getaway in your own house. Use decor, flowers, wine, romantic lighting to set the mood and tone from the place you were supposed to be. The thought and time that it took to show your LOVE that YOU didn’t want to wait will be swoon-worthy!

Turning a picnic or a hike into a romantic rendezvous is also incredibly thoughtful and safe! Also, proposing with a mask, a face shield in a full body suit can also be fun(ny)!! Maybe hiding the ring in a roll of toilet paper or in a jar of anti-bacterial gel?? Whatever or however you choose to propose during this crazy time….let it speak to the beautiful life you are going to make together! It will most definitely be a story for the ages just because Covid is the backdrop so have fun with it, get creative and share your engagement story with me! Let me know in the comments!

What's your Beauty Love Language?

February 8, 2021

What is your BEAUTY LOVE language during Covid ?

Love language and how we express love comes in 5 different categories according to therapist Gary Chapman, PhD.

  1. Words of Affirmation (To be verbally acknowledged) “ I love you but don’t touch me ”

  2. Quality Time (To enjoy companionship) “Ty for giving me 5 minutes of alone time”

  3. Receiving Gifts (To be given tokens of love) “Thank you for giving me 5 minutes of alone time”

  4. Acts of Service (To have partners do tasks for them) ‘Thank you for doing that so I can get 5 minutes of alone time”

  5. Physical Touch (To be in contact via the body) “ High fives in the hallway for another day of surviving this fucking Pandemic!”

Think we can all relate to these on some level! LOL, especially if you have kids, ya feel me!

Now, I believe we can hopefully all relate to these but how does this translate when we speak to BEAUTY in Covid Times?

  1. Words of Affirmation - “You are truly be-YOU-tiful when you wear your Shape Tape Concealer”

  2. Quality Time - “ I got a whole 6 minutes to put on my face today! “

  3. Receiving Gifts - “ Oh how do I love you Sephora, let me count my Beauty Insider Points “

  4. Acts of Service - “ Thanks hun for slathering on some Anti-bacterial gel before we

‘Do It’!

  1. Physical Touch- “Don’t even think about it unless you are giving me your full masked frontal!”

I hope you got a kick out of this post! Hope you enjoy your Valentine’s Day with loved ones! Comment and tell me if you have any fun Beauty Love Language nuggets to share!

IMATS 2017 with Danessa Myricks!

Celebrating Black Owned Beauty Businesses!

February 1, 2021

Happy February!

February is Black Awareness Month and I would love to highlight a few Black Owned Beauty Businesses for you to follow and show some love to!

1.  My first brand and business owner that I would like to give a huge shout out to is Danessa Myricks of Danessa Myricks Beauty! I was introduced to her brand at the IMATS (pictured above) or the International Makeup Artists Trade Show in Pasadena several years ago. She is a powerhouse in the beauty industry! She is a Muagrapher(a makeup artist as well as photographer), an innovator and influencer, a teacher and an all around amazing human! Her beauty line is not for the shy at heart. The colors, textures and creativity behind this brand are absolutely brilliant. I implore you to try a Colorfix 24-Hour Cream Color….the shade range is outstanding and you can wear these as eyeshadow, cheek color or lip pigment. Create and inspire with these products! Please let me know if you decide to try this brand!!

2.  Fenty Beauty is another amazing beauty brand that I love working with and have in my kit! Think most everyone knows that Rhianna has really created a stronghold in this market with her beauty brand sold at Sephora and online. The range of inclusion with color and product integration is truly beautiful. Her philosophy is all about being open to try new things and to not feel pressure, makeup should be fun!! Personally, I have tried some lipsticks, her stackable eyeshadow palettes, eyeliners, and a couple bronzers! I am a fan! Across the board I enjoy the functionality of the shadow palettes being able to snap together for travel which is awesome, I love the different texture applications for her lipstick colors(highly pigmented liquids or twist up lipsticks), her eyeliner colors have staying power and the bronzers are great! If you are wanting to give this brand a try, if you are checking out at Sephora online…they usually give you some options as to what mini freebie you would like contingent on what your points are…if you are curious and Fenty products are available…try it for yourself!! Let me know if you too love a good FENTY moment!

3.  Juvia’s Place is another beauty brand that I have recently started to play with and I have to say that the price point is giving me life and the shadow palettes that I have bought over the last couple of months, I am really impressed with. I purchased from ULTA during the Black Friday deals  so they ended up being like $8 each which is almost too tempting to ever say NO to!! The shadow colors are great, the color payoff is good, the texture is soft but not too soft and there is a shadow palette for every skin tone! They also have other beauty products available for the face, lips and cheeks but I have not personally tried them. I definitely will, given how impressed I have been with what I have now. If you are familiar with this brand, let me know your thoughts! Would love to hear them.

4. Pat McGrath , “The Mother of Makeup” is the QUEEN of beauty in Fashion and Runway and is the first makeup artist to be made a British Dame ! Her influence in the makeup world is undeniable. She commands the runway stage and in her editorials with her beautiful creations and is an inspiration to all artists. She came out with her very own makeup line a couple of years ago and yes, it is all that a bag of glitter! I personally have an eyeshadow palette, have tried her mascara and a gloss. Now, here are my thoughts…I love the colors in my palette but the packaging is heavy in my opinion. Her mascara is good and gloss is pretty. I want to try every single beauty item she has but the price point is a bit high, of course the quality is insanely high too! All is all, whatever Pat puts out there, artists like me will gravitate to because her aesthetic is always on the pulse of what is on trend and on point.
